Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, is a major airport serving Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka. Spanning 4,700 acres, it has been operational since 2008. The airport was officially named after Kempe Gowda I, the city’s founder. It holds the distinction of being the state’s first fully solar-powered airport, developed by CleanMax Solar.
Bangalore International Airport Limited operates the airport, located 30 km north of the city. It was opened as an alternative to HAL Airport Bangalore, replacing the original primary airport due to rising air traffic.

The airport features a Cargo Village with three cargo terminals, two passenger terminals, and two runways. The construction of the second terminal began on 6 Dec 2019. It was inaugurated by Narendra Modi in Dec 2022. Domestic flight operations started in Jan 2023, and all other operations were moved to the new terminal in Sept 2023.

Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR) works on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. It is owned and managed by Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) under a long-term agreement with the Government of India. The ownership is shared between private and public partners.
- Private promoters hold a 74% majority stake, mainly led by Fairfax India Holdings and Siemens Project Ventures GmbH.
